She earned her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and Exercise Science from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, in 2013. After discovering her passion for nursing, she returned to school and completed an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marian University in Indianapolis. Following graduation, Abby worked as a registered nurse in the NICU and Special Care Nursery at Regions Hospital and Ridgeview Hospital. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing from Regis College in 2021, specializing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. Abby completed her clinical rotations with Wayzata Children’s Clinic, where she quickly developed a strong connection to the clinic’s culture, patients, and community. She officially joined the team in 2022 and enjoys caring for children of all ages. Her clinical interests include NICU graduates, lactation support, and promoting overall health through fitness and nutrition. Abby and her husband, Karl, live in Delano, Minnesota, where they are raising their three children, Adley, Isaac, and James. All you need is an internet-connected device with a microphone and camera. We are excited to offer this convenient and safe option, so that you can continue receiving the high-quality personalized care you expect from Wayzata Children's Clinic. Forms What types of visits can be done via telehealth virtual visits? Visits for illness, behavior, mental health, medication management, rashes, lactation follow-ups, and more may be completed via telehealth. Additionally, your provider can discuss concerns for COVID-19 as well and can determine whether an in-person visit is suggested. Due to Minnesota state license restrictions, our clinic is only able to schedule telehealth visits with patients who are physically located in the state of Minnesota when the visit takes place. Are there visits you cannot do over telehealth? Yes, including visits with patients who are located outside of Minnesota when their visit occurs. However, if possible, we will try to treat your child without having an in-person visit. If your provider recommends an in-person clinic visit to examine your child, we will coordinate with you carefully. If a telehealth virtual visit results in an in-person clinic visit, you will only receive one office charge for the time spent. What do I need for a telehealth virtual visit? An internet-connected device with a camera and microphone such as a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer. After your telehealth virtual visit is scheduled, you will receive verbal instructions from your scheduler outlining how to easily connect with your provider at our virtual waiting room. You don't need to create an account or download anything to connect. If your telehealth virtual visit is for an illness, try to have a flashlight available to assist your provider in assessing your child's mouth and throat, if needed. A thermometer and a home scale are useful to have on hand as well. Can you help me if I'm having technical issues? Yes! You an avoid common problems by: Allowing camera and microphone access if you receive a pop-up message in your internet browser. Using the most recent version of Chrome , Firefox , Safari , or Microsoft Edge . Using a Wi-Fi connection instead of mobile data on a mobile device. If needed, we can connect via phone to provide other specific assistance. What should I do at my telehealth visit appointment time? Our schedulers will provide the website address for our virtual waiting room. Alternatively, you may click your provider below to join their waiting room. If a provider does not see that you've checked in at your appointment time, you may receive a text or email invitation. Will I be charged for this visit? Just like an in-person clinic visit, a charge will be sent to your insurance. Most carriers cover virtual visits, but we encourage you to check with them to confirm. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the College of William & Mary, and later completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University. After meeting her husband in Virginia, she relocated to California while he completed his military service, where she worked as a NICU nurse. She later moved with her husband to Minnesota and joined Children’s Minnesota in Minneapolis, where she spent five years as a NICU nurse while completing her Master of Science in Nursing through Maryville University, graduating in 2022. Kaitlin is board-certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care and joined Wayzata Children’s Clinic in 2023. She also earned her International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential in 2025 to further support families through their breastfeeding journeys. Kaitlin is passionate about partnering with families in a collaborative, educational approach to care, with particular interests in newborn care, lactation support, chronic conditions, gastrointestinal concerns, and growth and development. Outside of work, Kaitlin enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children, a son and a daughter. Book Now Shane McWhirter MD Biography Shane grew up in Kasson, Minnesota, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. He was subsequently accepted to the University of Minnesota Medical School. With a strong interest in pediatrics from an early age (he told his sixth-grade teacher he planned to become a pediatrician). Shane was selected for the innovative, competency-based Education in Pediatrics Across the Continuum (EPAC) program, which allowed him to earn his medical degree in 2017. He continued his training at the University of Minnesota, completing his pediatric residency in 2020 before joining Wayzata Children’s Clinic. Shane enjoys caring for children of all ages and has special interests in adolescent medicine and medical education. He is passionate about partnering with patients and families throughout their healthcare journey and empowering them to make informed decisions that support their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Shane lives in Minneapolis with his wife, a teacher at Minnetonka High School, their two children, and their Bernese Mountain Dog, Teddy. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, exploring new restaurants, traveling, attending concerts and movies, and cheering on Minnesota sports teams. Shane is one of our licensed Nexplanon providers. She provides care for infants, children, and adolescents, with a special interest in newborn care and early childhood development. Maddie is passionate about delivering compassionate, family-centered pediatric care and supporting parents in feeling confident and informed throughout their child’s health journey. Maddie grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and has always enjoyed working with children. She earned her degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She then began her healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at American Family Children’s Hospital, an experience that deepened her commitment to supporting both patients and their families during critical moments of care. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Concordia University of Wisconsin. Since joining Wayzata Children’s Clinic in 2022, Maddie has valued building long-term relationships with families and fostering a welcoming environment where parents feel heard, supported, and empowered in their child’s care. Book Now Jeff Humbert MD Biography Jeff grew up in Anoka, Minnesota, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1995 after earning his bachelor’s degree in genetics and cell biology. He remained at the University for medical school and was also involved in research within the Department of Pediatrics. During his residency (also at the University of Minnesota), Dr. Humbert’s weekly continuity clinic was with Wayzata Children’s Clinic. Dr. Humbert is board-certified in pediatrics and joined. He completed his pediatric residency in 2004 and then moved to Sartell, Minnesota, and practiced as a pediatrician for nearly seven years with CentraCare Clinic and the St. Cloud Hospital. While there, he served as the department chair of pediatrics and as a member of the St. Cloud Hospital executive committee. Dr. Humbert joined Wayzata Children’s Clinic in 2011. Jeff enjoys seeing children of all ages for well exams, and his clinical interests include hematology/oncology, asthma, and allergy. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Tufts University in Massachusetts before returning to Minnesota to complete both medical school and her pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota. She further advanced her training through a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Kansas. Since joining Wayzata Children’s Clinic in 2013, Dr. Liss has provided patient-centered, holistic pediatric care focused on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness. She is also a Certified Lactation Counselor, offering expert support in breastfeeding and infant nutrition. Dr. Liss takes a comprehensive approach to children’s health, incorporating nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental factors into individualized care plans. She partners closely with families to promote long-term wellness and empower children to take an active role in their health. After college, she spent time in California working as a children’s ski instructor in Lake Tahoe. She then returned “home” to Minnesota for medical school at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1999. Although she officially joined Wayzata Children’s Clinic in 2003, she was already familiar to many families, having completed her weekly continuity clinic here during her three years of pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota. She currently serves as President of the Board of Directors through 2026. Dr. Dodig is board-certified in pediatrics, with clinical interests in adolescent medicine and sports medicine. She also volunteers annually as a camp physician at a summer camp in northern Minnesota. Tracie, her husband Jay, and their sons Jimmy and Matthew live in Minneapolis. In her free time, she enjoys attending her sons’ hockey games and spending time at the rink, as well as downhill and cross-country skiing and exploring the lakes and trails throughout the city. She completed her medical education in 2013 at Army Medical College in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. After finishing her internship, she moved to Minnesota to join her husband, a lifelong Minnesotan. She earned her Master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Minnesota in 2020 and completed her pediatric residency there in June 2024. She is board-eligible in pediatrics. Her clinical interests include caring for children of all ages and medical complexities, as well as providing care for immigrant populations and addressing travel-related health needs.
